Get to know the artists in show on Saturday night at JACKALOPE MONTREAL 2022

August 17, 2022 / By admin

Let’s face it, Saturday at JACKALOPE is the biggest day of the year. After a packed sports program, check out a triple show starting at 9:15pm with artists GROS BIG, NAYA ALI and TIZZO! It’s going to be FIRE. To get you into it, here are a few more details about the artists.

GROS BIG

Powered by 2017 OD Bali winner Adamo Marinacci, the duo is made up of the rapper and his sidekick J7. Their projects accumulate over 6M listens on Spotify and over 5M views on Youtube in addition to 128K followers on Instagram. Today, they are back with their HIT Camping which is currently in rotation at CKOI while placing first in the Rap Battle against Loud, Sarahmée and Zach Zoya. LET’S GO!

Originally from the South Shore of Montreal, the two rappers Adamo and J7 arrived on the Quebec hip-hop scene in the mid 2000’s. They had a string of solo, group and collective projects before getting noticed in the battle rap scene.

After a tour across Quebec and a sold-out Club Soda to celebrate the arrival of the second opus Gros Big 2 in the fall of 2018, the two rappers are making their mark, with the support of the media in the Quebec hip-hop landscape, without losing their second degree and more than motivated to take the stage.

NAYA ALI

Rapper of Ethiopian origin established in Montreal, Naya Ali arrives in 2017 as a fresh wind on the Canadian Hip-Hop scene and does not hide her international ambitions. Quickly noticed for her flamboyant personality and unparalleled flow, the artist is able to transport us from a scathing universe to a sometimes dark, sometimes quieter world, but always without compromise.   Since the release of his first EP entitled Higher Self, the emerging artist is quickly attracting the attention of several media and hip-hop heavyweights, even beyond our borders.

After making a lot of noise again in March 2020 with Godspeed: Baptism (Prelude), Naya Ali finally arrived on September 3 with the second part of her first album project. She proves, once again, that she has nothing to envy the great American stars.

Aptly titled Godspeed: Elevated, this work presents the artist’s journey from her beginnings in the music industry, from her baptism to her elevation, which is where she is now. If the prelude was her humble introduction to the game, this new chapter is a testament to the exceptional artist she is, full of power, valour, but also vulnerability. Godspeed: Elevated is clearly a mature album in terms of lyrics, production and message. Since the release of Godspeed: Elevated, Naya Ali has had the chance to present her project in the United States (SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST), in France (Bars en Trans, Printemps de Bourges, Festivasl Décibulles, Chauffer dans la noirceur), in Belgium (Dour Festival), in Switzerland (Les Georges Festival), in England (Focus Wales, London, The Great Escape). More recently, she was invited to present her project in Singapore (All That Matters Festival), Taiwan (LUC Fest) and Rotterdam (New Skool Festival). This is crazy!

TIZZO

Straight out of Montreal’s Ahuntsic district, Teddy Laguerre, better known as Tizzo, needs no introduction in the Quebec rap scene. A true titan in the game, Tizzo entered the scene as a true tornado by releasing 6 projects in 2 years! At the same time, he was able to impose his unique style with a lexicon of his own that put forward the slang of Montreal.

Tizzo has carved out an important place for himself on the hip-hop scene with projects like 51tr4p fr4p50 and Fouette Jean-Baptiste. These numerous projects gave birth to the mythical track “on fouette” which allowed him to be the recipient of the SOCAN song award in 2019 with his long time friends Shreez, Soft and 4590’z.

Since then, Tizzo continues his rise in the industry. He multiplies his appearances on television and in the most reputable newspapers in the province. He has even gained recognition outside of the country where American media have taken notice of the musical movement he initiated in 2018. All of this success has resulted in him being able to start his own record label, Canicule Records, in 2020.

KARTEL MUSIK

Kartel Musik is a record label in the hip hop industry since 2008. For the 10th edition of JACKALOPE, the label presents 3 of its artists from the hip hop scene. Already well established in Quebec, Kartel Musik is also doing major productions internationally. Kartel Musik’s primary mission is to develop the talent and market of French-speaking artists in Quebec and to create a real bridge across the Atlantic with France by building a catalog of local artists in show and album production, management and publishing to ensure their export to France. Conversely, its goal is also to import French artists in the form of a license or “promotion/distribution agreement” with European majors or labels. In short, Kartel represents a panoply of artists to discover or rediscover.
