All you need to know about the bouldering competition at JACKALOPE Montreal 2023

July 6, 2023 / By admin

We have a confession to make. One year on, we’re still reeling from the spectacle of last year’s competition, where organizers, participants and festival-goers alike showed their solidarity and enthusiasm.

You can’t change a winning formula, so keep up the energy and discover the 2023 program.

Here’s what’s in store for this year’s JACKALOPE! An invitation to all!

A BOULDERING COMPETITION FOR ALL

No official competition this year, but a bouldering competition for all! It will take the form of a “scramble” and will bring together climbers of all levels divided into 3 categories: Citizen, climbers of level V0 to V4 / Advenced, climbers of level V5 to V7 / OPEN, climbers of level V8 and +.

The 6 women and 6 men in the OPEN category will compete for the title of JACKALOPE 2023 champion, and share a $10,000 purse in the rush-format grand final on Saturday evening.

GUEST ATHLETES

At the time of writing, it is impossible to name the athletes who will be present at JACKALOPE 2023, but we can already assure you of a superb team of top-level climbers. It’s worth remembering that the JACKALOPE Virginia Beach podium (M/W) and the winning podiums (M/W) from the TOUR DE BLOC competitions, organized in collaboration with Arc’teryx , in Langford, Toronto, Halifax, Calgary and Ottawa will be there!

GET READY FOR THE DYNO COMP

Sunday is reserved for the Dyno Comp! Here too, 2 categories will be created to allow everyone to participate in an impartial setting.

This tournament-style event will pit two opponents against each other in a “game of skate” (or h.o.r.s.e.) duel. Competitors will have to pull off the most spectacular dynamic moves possible to win their duels through to the final. The final will bring together the most daring athletes, who will be rewarded with “cash for tricks“.

CLIMBING TO YOUR HEART’S CONTENT

We look forward to seeing you on the esplanade of the Olympic Stadium on August 25, 26 and 27. All those registered for the bouldering competition will have free access to the three Allez UP climbing gyms between August 24 and September 4.

If you’d like to discover bouldering, this year’s free (non-competition) climbing will take place on the Arc’Teryx wall set up right next to the Allez UP competition wall. Beginner to intermediate bouldering problems will be setter by the Allez UP team of setters led by Frédéric Fortin-Moquin. Don’t forget your chalk bag and climbing shoes.

Until we see you there, we wish you good climbing, and if you need some motivation, take a look at last year’s video recap!
