Pedro Barros announces carnage in the bowl

August 8, 2023 / By jean

A guest of honor at this year’s Jackalope, Pedro Barros may only be 28, but he’s already a legend in Brazil and internationally. A world champion, he has won numerous trophies and medals at major competitions, including a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

He’s renowned for being a nuclear bomb of energy on his skateboard, and the louder the crowd, the higher his intensity level. Barros won the 2019 Vans Park Series competition in Montreal in spectacular fashion. Everything looks set for a storm of aerial tricks and full-speed grinds from the athlete who grew up on a skateboard. Although he had to make do with the small facilities available to him during his childhood on the island of Florianopolis in Brazil, he developed a talent for skating the highest vertical ramps.

It will be a great privilege to see him skate and shake the Olympic stadium floor! We asked him a few questions to find out how he’ll be feeling when he arrives in Montreal for the JACKALOPE.

What do you like most about skateboarding: The lifestyle.  The art, the music, the friendship the travel and the sessions with friends

A competitive moment that has marked you: For sure Tokyo Olympics. It wasn’t just skateboarding, it was something I was doing to the entire world for them to see what skateboarding is for real.

What kind of music or artist do you like to listen to when you skate? All. Jazz to Rock N Roll . I have a band (Melissa) and music is a big part of my life. We launched the first album called Amantis on Spotify.

Triple question about tricks:
A trick you really like: Go high, feel like i’m flying
A trick you want to learn: I don’t have anything specific. I wanna learn all of them.
A trick you’ll probably never do (why?) Hand plants are my issue. I don’t know why.
Can you describe a perfect session:   I have so many homies that it is hard to say who would be part of the perfect session. For sure with music, beer, bbq and everyone would be hyped.

What do you know about Montréal and/or the people who live there? I love it. I have visited before and people there are always friendly.

If you weren’t skateboarding, which discipline would you have practised? I would play soccer or be a jiu jitsu fighter as they are strong cultures in Brazil and I always play.

In what frame of mind are you going to arrive at Jackalope 2023, and what do you have to say to the people who are coming to watch the competition? I am coming because I promised the best skateboarding action of all time. That and all the fun that Jackalope is offering will make it an incredible weekend.
