Winners of the game of S.K.A.T.E in Paris

August 28, 2024 / By vanessa

You already know that the JACKALOPE family has many connections, and every year we welcome guests from all over the world. During the Paris Olympics, JACKALOPE was invited to join the organization of a S.K.A.T.E. game played on the banks of the Seine. That’s where we met some new friends, who are being offered a ticket to visit us in Montreal! Three people were invited: the two finalists of the skateboarding part and a special guest recommended by a partner (ICON) were invited to add to the quality of the international skateboarding competition that will take place during the Montréal 2024 edition. Here are their names and a short presentation for each of these electrifying athletes.

Stellio Sakellarides

Skater Stellio, a 24-year-old native of Reunion Island, lives up to his name because you can tell he’s got style. We often talk about the importance of making difficult things look easy, and in Stellio’s case it’s all his stuff. Everything looks so fluid and obvious when he rides his board. He’s in a class of his own when it comes to laid-back style. Older riders will remember Brent Atchley, who made a smashing career debut in 2005 in the Element video. Stellio is the modern french version of this pro who changed the notion of style by riding the biggest concrete transitions with street style and loose clothing. This is also true of the Frenchman, who moves around skateparks with a unique ease and glides over vertical surfaces with a style of dress usually seen among street skaters. Like a Tom Penny or Brent Atchley, Stellio shines in quarter pipes and transitions, but he’s equally adept on a street course and has won several competitions in his life, including the first leg of the FISE tour in Avoriaz in 2023.

He’s a solid competitor, and it’s a safe bet that he’ll be a crowd favorite, it remains to be seen what the judges think. The smooth operator is coming to town with an approach as inspiring as his skating:

“I’m coming to Montreal to travel, broaden my horizons, have fun, do my best, be better than the person I was yesterday and spend one of the best times of my life with my buddies I’ll be meeting there. I’m currently in Estonia because, at the end of the day, that’s what skateboarding is all about, it’s a mentality, it’s a way of life that’s dictated by nobody but yourself.”

Carl Bourguignon

Here’s a 21-year-old skater with a promising future ahead of him. Will he represent France at the next Olympics? Some might see him as a successor to Vincent Milou. We’ll be in a better position to decide once we’ve seen him in person in Montreal. In addition to winning the s.k.a.t.e game in Paris and his entry in JACKALOPE, the skater from the City of Light has taken part in several European competitions, and this will be his first appearance at a skateboarding event in America.

“I don’t really have the level to win competitions yet, so I’m going there with the idea of making it a positive experience, which is always the case, and even more so when it’s abroad. It’s a bit crazy to think that as a kid I used to take the metro to go to a competition, and now it’s planes in different countries and continents.”

Despite his long list of sponsors, this is the first time he’s been sent to skate on another continent. When asked what he was expecting he said,

“I’m quite looking forward to it, I’ve always thought Canada was a great country, so it’s a perfect opportunity to visit it a bit.”

Chances are he’ll love Canada if he lands for JACKALOPE Montreal because it’s probably the best time of year in the best place in America, but we’ll let him be the judge of that.

Victor Schlegel

Here’s another 21-year-old skater who promises to arrive in Montreal with a knife between his teeth in a bid to secure a place in the finals. Victor Schlegel has proven himself on the old continent by appearing in the European media (photo by Valentin Melocco via confusion magazine) and competing at the highest level but he still has a lot to prove in America. If the support of his peers and a good performance will have brought him to Montreal, let’s see what he can do to stand out in front of the JACKALOPE audience.
