JACKALOPE Mississauga 2024: Highlights of the BASE Jump Competitions

July 26, 2024 / By vanessa

For the first time, JACKALOPE took place in Mississauga, a city whose numerous buildings added a unique dimension to our BASE jump competition. The winds, which funnel between the buildings, made analyzing the jumping conditions particularly perilous. Participants had to rely on the flags around the sites to assess wind directions before jumping. From the top, the view was breathtaking, and you could even see the motocross backflips below, making the event even more spectacular!

Urban Environment:

One of the highlights of this edition was the use of a 100-meter crane as a jump platform. Athletes usually climb these structures at night, but here they had the opportunity to do it in broad daylight, offering a unique experience. The rapid ascent to the top, followed by over 60 jumps, left a lasting impression.

Weather:

The weather was ideal for BASE jumping, with bright sunshine and a light warm breeze that made the event even more memorable.

The Athletes:

This edition brought together top-level athletes, including Americans Mateo Massoni and Arman Kremer, who came straight from Miami after a big BASE jumping trip in Panama. Their presence brought a special energy to the competition. We also welcomed Raphaƫle Couroux, the 2019 JACKALOPE champion, who delivered a solid performance throughout the day, landing close to the target during the competition.

The Podium:

The podium this year was particularly impressive. Erwan finally claimed the first place after several participations in JACKALOPE. Mateo Massoni took second place, delivering a memorable show with a barrel roll, captured from multiple angles. Jeff, a local from Mississauga, returned from Calgary to participate and finished third, cheered on by his family.

Ideal or Difficult Conditions? Fun Facts?

The conditions were exceptional, and we are already brainstorming exciting new ideas for next year. Mississauga proved to be a fantastic site for BASE jumpers, with plenty of features to exploit for future events.

Tricks Performed or Attempted:

Mateo Massoni particularly stood out with a spectacular barrel roll. We can’t wait to see what future editions have in store, with even bolder tricks and jumps!

JACKALOPE Mississauga 2024 will be remembered as an unforgettable edition, filled with highlights and impressive performances. See you next year for even more adrenaline and challenges!
