Last weekend, the JACKALOPE Festival in Mississauga hosted the Canadian Breaking Championship. Breaking Canada, the entity in charge of the Canadian circuit, crowned five new Canadian champions despite the capricious weather, which did not stop the dancers. More than 90 Canadians participated. The talent and competition were fierce, with two categories: youth and elite. Representatives from Alberta to Nova Scotia were present at this national championship. Notably, British Columbia and Quebec stood out, surpassing even the number of local breakers from Ontario.

The Canadian championship concluded in front of a packed house with a call-out between Canadian Bboy Mass, who disagreed with judge FreshFX‘s decision, but all in the spirit of respect for the art. The future looks promising. We must highlight the incredible work of the coaches and the support of the parents, who contribute to the success of Canadian breakers.
Saturday had a national flavor, but Sunday offered an international character to the JACKALOPE Festival. Several breakers from around the world participated in the 7 to Smoke, the You Be Ill Championship, and the You Be Elle Championship. The level of competitors was incredible. Notably, the winner of the 7 to Smoke was none other than a Canadian: Bboy Intrikid from Quebec. Hawaiian Bboy Hijacked and Colombian Bgirl Luma took home the honors in You Be Ill // Elle. These international competitions were the penultimate step before the Paris Summer Games.

To inspire the dancers, two free breaking workshops were offered with none other than Laos (France) and Wicket (USA). Laos workshop, initially scheduled for Friday, had to be postponed to Sunday due to rain, which did not stop the dancers as they showed up in large numbers for the rescheduled session!
