Vert on Fire – JACKALOPE Montréal 2025

September 18, 2025 / By justin

This past weekend, Montréal pulsed to the rhythm of vert and mini ramp skating, with a record-breaking 28,000 spectators gathered around the action. Runs lit up the crowd, groms showcased the future of the sport, and the women’s final is already being called the best in JACKALOPE history. A look back at a weekend to remember.

Friday Night Best Trick: The JACKALOPE Fridge Takes Center Stage

Friday night, Montréal’s crowd witnessed an out-of-this-world Best Trick session on the vert. A JACKALOPE fridge was installed right on the coping, turning the ramp into a playground for madness.

Creativity exploded as riders pushed themselves to leave their mark on opening night. Skate legend Bob Burnquist had everyone on their feet with a surgical switch nosegrind across the fridge. Right after, Viktor Solmunde earned the crowd’s respect with a perfectly locked noseblunt that triggered a standing ovation. But it was Dan Sabino who flipped the session upside down, throwing down a string of insane tricks, redefining what a Best Trick can be.

With an electric atmosphere, jaw-dropping tricks, and pure creative chaos, this Best Trick will forever be remembered as one of the highlights of JACKALOPE festivals.

Vert Men: JD Sanchez, Broken Wrist – Unstoppable Victory

The men’s field reached stratospheric levels. After a stacked Saturday with two rounds of qualifiers (22 skaters → 14 → 8 → finals), Sunday’s showdown delivered intensity like never before.

  • 🥇 JD Sanchez (USA) conquered the ramp despite a broken wrist, putting down mind-blowing runs with just his left hand. A true display of grit and mastery.
  • 🥈 Soya Inomata (JPN) stunned with unmatched amplitude, soaring higher than anyone else.
  • 🥉 Collin Graham (USA) threw down the best run of his life, yet still finished third, proving just how off-the-charts the level was.

Highlights included Hudson Walker (11) stomping a 900 over the 10-foot channel, Collin Graham tossing a kickflip lien air 360, JD shocking everyone with his full arsenal despite injury, and Ema Kawakami (11) casually throwing 900s in line like it was nothing.

Vert Women: Arisa Trew on Top

The women’s contest brought unprecedented intensity, headlined by Arisa Trew (AUS), Mizuho Hasegawa (JPN) both decorated X Games medalists, and Jada Ward (USA).

  • 🥇 Arisa Trew (AUS) dominated with ease, capping her runs by stomping a switch McTwist that blew the roof off the venue.
  • 🥈 Mizuho Hasegawa (JPN) delivered trademark consistency and precision, locking down a well-deserved second.
  • 🥉 Nina Ye (USA) surprised with creativity and infectious energy, stealing the crowd’s heart and cementing her spot in a historic final.

This women’s final will be remembered for its intensity, groundbreaking technical level, and the feeling that the discipline has just reached a new peak. Montréal roared for every trick, as much as for the camaraderie and respect shown between athletes, an inspiring showcase of everything women’s skateboarding has to offer.

Special mention goes to Malorie, 15, the only Québécoise in vert skateboarding and a media darling all weekend, who won over the crowd and wrapped it all up with this post: “One of the best weeks of my life like all the others @jackalopefest” 🥹
