Kicking off the weekend was the Scramble Comp, featuring 25 different boulders designed to test climbers’ abilities and problem-solving skills. The competition began with three qualification heats—one on Friday night and two on Saturday afternoon. Competitors had the option to register in one of two categories: Recreational, aimed at beginner to advanced climbers, and Open, reserved for expert climbers. During the round, each group had 8 minutes to tackle their set of bouldering problems and allowed athletes to work together and figure out beta together. Among the standout moments of the night, Ross Fulkerson made a dramatic impression by going feet first on the final move of M1, securing the first top of the evening and setting the tone for the rest of the competition.
Matthew Rodriguez also delivered an impressive performance on M3, where he cleverly skipped a hold to top, demonstrating both creativity and precision. In the women’s category, hometown favourite Babette Roy flashed W3 with a spectacular coordination dyno, clenching her victory and the only top in her category with an impressive display of skill and flair. Sofie, who finished second, had won a Golden Ticket at the Arc’teryx Academy back in August, securing her place at JACKALOPE Montréal, making her podium finish even more exciting as she continues to grow in the sport.
