August 25, 2025 / By justin

JACKALOPE is back at Montréal’s Old Port from September 12 to 14, 2025, for a weekend packed with action sports and festival vibes. Alongside skateboarding, climbing once again takes center stage thanks to our bouidlering partner Arc’teryx and the expertise of Allez Up, who will be running a series of competitions designed for everyone.

Whether you’re a recreational climber, a seasoned pro, or simply here to enjoy the show, the climbing program at JACKALOPE is your chance to get in on the action and experience the energy firsthand.

The Bouldering Competition: Open to All

This year’s bouldering competition will follow a scramble format, welcoming climbers of all backgrounds into two categories:

  • Recreational: Intermediate to advanced climbers (V0 to V7 – yellow to red)
  • Open: Expert climbers (V8 and up – red to white)

On a massive 80-foot portable wall, 25 unique problems will be set to challenge your skills. Test yourself, push your limits, and maybe even earn a spot in the finals!

The Finals, a Real Show

The highlight of the weekend is the Open Finals, happening on Saturday, September 13 at 8:00 PM.

The top 12 climbers (6 women / 6 men) from the Open category will battle it out in a high-energy “rush” format, with no isolation and waves of 3 athletes at a time. Their mission: top as many problems as possible to reach the podium, claim the title of JACKALOPE 2025 Champion, and take home their share of the $10,000 prize purse.

Designed as a true spectator event, every attempt is a make-or-break moment. Last year, this final drew the largest crowd ever seen in Canada for a climbing competition. This year promises to raise the bar even higher, and the best part? It’s free!

Speed Bouldering: New Format

Want to try something fresh? JACKALOPE introduces Speed Bouldering: an electrifying head-to-head format where two climbers race side by side on identical boulder problems. First to the top wins the duel.

This crowd-favorite is open to all (problems set at a moderate V4 / blue tape). Here’s how it works:

  • Qualifications: Climbers are drawn into 4 groups (16 spots for women / 24 spots for men). Everyone faces each opponent in their group at least once.
  • Semifinals: The top two from each group move on.
  • Finals: Duel-style battles (1 vs 1) continue until only one champion remains.

Fast-paced, intense, and impossible not to cheer for, Speed Bouldering is set to be a highlight of the weekend.
